Dogs don’t judge people

They don’t judge us.

They don’t care whether we’re fat or thin or in between.

They don’t notice our wrinkles and crinkles.

They give us much more than we could ever give them.

They wait patiently until we get home and even if we’ve only been gone for five minutes, they greet us like rock stars.

They don’t care if you’re rich or poor.

They don’t ask for much, some love, a walk, some food and a place to sleep.

And this is what that love looks like.

Animal affection

Not too happy to be at the vets!

Lucy is sort of okay at the vets, but Mozart is terrified. In human terms, I guess it’s like going to the dentist. You know you need to, but it really sucks.

5 Things that I am Grateful for…

On this Thanksgiving Day, I am grateful for:

  • My Husband. He has stuck with me through thick and thin for 40 years and right now things are tough.
  • My friends. I am thankful for their love and support.
  • My family. There aren’t many of them left, but I love my brother and my nieces and nephews and aunts and uncles.
  • My two Goldendoodles, Lucy and Mozart. They teach me everyday about unconditional love.
  • My health. I can’t complain. I’m healthy at 66 and I plan on staying here.

I’m a Goldendoodle and I want to play ball!

My name is Lucy-the-Goldendoodle and I need a lot of exercise! I’m not for the faint of heart.

Play ball with me! Walk me! Run me, jog me, take me to the beach… I need to burn off a lot of energy.

If you want a lap dog, get a Pekingese. By the way, I think I’m a lap dog but my people think I take up way too much room on the couch. When I sit in their laps they complain about my weight, 63 pounds, and the fact that I radiate a lot of heat!

Goldendoodles Get Caught Eating Tomatoes and Bananas. Verdict, Guilty!

Do all Goldendoodles eat tomatoes and bananas? Our little Lucy does! She’s a tall dog and I forget that she can easily reach the counter tops. She peels the bananas and leaves the empty husks on the floor. She can eat a ton of tomatoes and just leave a few lonely seeds.  Mozart, my other doodle, is calm, sweet and well-behaved until Lucy puts the food on the floor, then he becomes her partner in crime!

How did I know she’s guilty? That is a guilty face! Besides, I could see the 3 empty leaves on the floor and I could smell the bananas on her breath. I ran a sobriety test on her.  She was 3 times over the legal limit. We’re not letting her near the car.

Her crime? DWISF. Driving while under the influence of stolen food. Verdict? Oh yeah, guilty as charged! Her sentence? She didn’t get one. She was caught after the fact so the evidence was circumstantial.

But Lucy is the most loving dog I’ve ever had. I forgive her for all her sins. Eating CD covers, produce, bread, cream cheese, and meat if she can get to it.

I’d made an extra hamburger one night for my two crazy goldendoodles. Lucy took the burger off the plate without rattling it. We didn’t hear a thing. She ate it all. Poor Mozart. He didn’t get any.

She’s also fond of little children, some adults and other dogs.  In this case, size really doesn’t matter. She’s an equal opportunity lunger and growler. If a small child runs at her, well, it’s not a pretty sight. Other dogs are iffy. Tall dark men; it depends on the man.  She would never bite anyone but that growl is pretty scary and I could do without the lunging part. Mozart, as always, is perfect. Most goldendoodles are well-behaved, but not Satan’s-Spawn, Devil-Dog and The Force-to-be-Reckoned-With.

She’ll be six in May. I keep telling her that she has to live forever. Steve, my husband, has never been so attached to a dog. One of the things I know for sure is that you have to love them as unconditionally as they love you and forgive them their sins – they really do not know what they do!

My job? Take really good care of them and hope they live a long life. Walk them, pet them, love them, kiss them, let them kiss me, let them eat stuff off of the counter tops, let them curl up with me at night, and don’t listen to anyone telling me that sleeping with my dogs exposes me to bubonic plague!

If they do steal food off the counter, well,  I show clemency. I really do love my Goldendoodles!

Being Thankful for Two Crazy Goldendoodles Doodles and My Life.

Lucy, my first doodle, is also known as Satan’s Spawn, Devil Dog and The Force To Be Reckoned With, but I’m so glad that I didn’t miss having this magnificent dog in my life. She started off as a replacement dog for Rosie who had died 5 weeks earlier and in hindsight, maybe I should have waited a little longer, but the house felt so empty. I found Lucy on the Internet and she is probably a puppy mill dog. I really thought she was coming from a reputable breeder but I’d “ordered” a mini-doodle, we took one look at her giant paws and knew she wasn’t a mini. So much for 35 pounds! She weighs 60 pounds, I’ve never had a big dog before so I am thankful to her for giving me this experience. I love big dogs!

Since we really didn’t know how big she was going to be, we made her into a lap dog and at 60 pounds she still wants to crawl into our laps and cuddle.  Yeah! She is the most loving dog that I’ve ever had.

But she was a handful so we decided to get her a “friend.” Enter stage right Mozart. We rescued him from Arkansas and he had definitely  been abused. Even now after 3 years he’s still my fragile little boy. We give him extra love because he needs it.

Thanksgiving 2010. I turned 65, I went on Medicare, I have two wonderful Doodles and oh yeah, a great husband. How lucky can I get?
